An odd collection of magazine covers over the past sixty days leaves me amused.
I walk into the base shopette around five times a week, and always pass the magazine rack. I sat and paused this past week....and counted. There were almost 18 magazines with President Obama on the cover. Three weeks ago....I would have probably counted around twenty. From November....probably around thirty-odd magazines. Almost every single magazine has used his image over the past 90 days now. In fact, I started thinking of the five that I have yet to see his image.
There is that NASCAR update magazine that I never touch....which has yet to feature Obama.
There is the National Georgraphic magazine....which I'm guessing they are wasting two hundred hours a month trying to find some story that would allow them to put the image on the front but he hasn't done anything geographic in nature.
There is a rapster magazine which usually features some hot rapper on the front. As of yet, they haven't used Obama.
There is Kiplinger's, which usually features a money topic on the front and it'd be hard to be some dude like Obama on the cover.
And finally, there is Better Homes and Gardens....which never features an actual human, just homes and gardens.
Frankly, its like "Jesus" walks amongst us now, and you can't avoid having a picture of Jesus in your house, your office, or your car. The Globe and National Enquirer folks have also featured smaller pictures of Obama, but always in the light of a new scandal about to erupt but then you never really have anything about this later.
How far will this go? I'm betting that Newsweek uses over twenty images of Obama from October of last year to October of 2009. Will this eventually burn out on people? The simple answer....yes.
